“Adaptability is pivotal in your career” said Judy Schmeling as she shared more about her life as CFO and COO of HSN,Inc. Her journey to success was marked by her tenacious attitude and her willingness to take risks. Although she never sought out to become a business pioneer or to obtain C-suite titles, her worth ethic and innate hunger for learning and commanding tasks related to any position she took on were pertinent to her career progression. She inspired students to “do what it takes to get the job done” and to be confident enough to take on positions that they have little knowledge of. Learning is a journey-not a destination.
Networking and getting access to amazingly talented people is another reason I love this b-school journey. I am not a fan of complex formulas nor have I enjoyed every business course. However, I do enjoy becoming a social connoisseur and making the right connections with the RIGHT people.
Schmeling, by the way, was dressed immaculately and her dainty Christian Louboutin heels were beautiful. When she casually mentioned how much she liked my animal print booties (last season from Shoe Dazzle), I seriously considered asking her if we could trade. She was humble and graciously spent time talking to us at an intimate reception. I devoted months to planning this event. I meet with the company’s executive assistant and checked every logistically detail. The time and effort was worth it. http://wordpress.com/post/
