Obama Frenzy

As my birthday approaches, I am pleased to know that President Barack Obama is in Ghana.

People speculate that he chose this area because it is relatively safe and not plagued by civil war.

His face is plastered everywhere in the city.  Natives, with wide smiles and an occasional fist pump, randomly shout Obama when they encounter Americans. Local radio stations and news channels fill the air and white space with information about the President and his visit.

There are rumors that he will go to Elimina or Cape Coast Slave castle. I hope that I can see his speech on TV. He was suppose to deliver it in Accra but plans changed and he is now in Cape Coast.

At times, I think that Ghanians may know more about politics than most Americans. The college students ask me about my current Governor and public policy. And apparently former President Bush does not have a great reputation here. Hum…I wonder why?!
